Focused on people and communities and guided by our core values, we aim to contribute to an improved and sustainable environment and deliver wider social benefits underpinned by high professional standards.
A responsible approach is integral to the Civica Way. We are making progress with a wide range of initiatives, with increased awareness of our activities and further engagement with our people to help deliver on our commitments. We also take an active role within our industry, working collaboratively to realise the benefits of software technology for people, society and the economy.
It starts with our people.
Taking pride in our people's dedication and expertise, we work hard to support our colleagues in making a difference. This includes our ongoing focus and investment in our employees and our culture and a commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace.
Our efforts are supported by excellent employee ratings, including our Net Promoter (NPS) index of +50. With a strong emphasis on work-life balance, Civica was named a Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Award winner in 2019 and an Australian Business Awards Employer of Choice in 2020.
We look to attract bright, like-minded colleagues from all backgrounds who share our strong purpose and values, and we empower everyone to be their true self. We work hard to ensure Civica remains a great place to work, with sustained programmes for engagement, learning, leadership and support. In 2020 we delivered 200,000 hours of learning & development through our global Learning Academy, building the skills needed to deliver our promises.
We support mental and physical health through our wellbeing programme, including more than 50 people trained as mental health champions.
Equity, diversity & inclusion
Civica is recognised in the top 75 companies listed in the 2021 Financial Times Diversity Leaders list. We continue to take steps to improve from virtual diversity and inclusion training to enhancing facilities and systems to ensure they are accessible and can be enjoyed by all.
With a good gender balance, we champion women in technology and most recently achieved White Ribbon workplace accreditation in Australia, which recognises organisations' active role in preventing violence against women. We fully support gender pay gap reporting, for which we aim to continue our improvement.
A signatory to the UK’s Tech Talent Charter and the Armed Forces Covenant, we’re committed to inclusive recruitment and benchmarking our progress. We’ve worked towards reducing the opportunity for unconscious bias, including anonymising CVs, ensuring job ads use gender-neutral language, and ensuring that recruitment channels and interview panels represent our candidates.
Helping our customers improve outcomes for their communities
Our products and services are used to support over 90 million people. We aim to help improve public services for the benefit of communities worldwide and create social value through technology. We also look for opportunities to support our customer’s social responsibility as part of working in partnership.
Innovation is embedded in the business and is a key part of our efforts. Focused through our Civica NorthStar innovation lab, we continue to accelerate applying new ideas and technologies to enhance public services. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, this included rapidly conceiving and delivering new products and resources to support vulnerable people.
Civica Foundation
Sharing our expertise and energy in support of communities is important. Individuals and teams worldwide devise and take part in a wide range of community schemes and charitable initiatives. These are focused through the Civica Foundation, which is run by volunteers and has supported good causes for more than a decade.
We encourage employees to ‘Donate-a-Day’ for volunteering and to be charity champions for their teams. Partner charities include Young Enterprise and Action for Children in the UK and Whitelion and Room to Read in Australia. The wide range of activities we support ranges from the Taste of Civica festival in aid of the Koshish Milap Trust in Vadodara, India, to our Tales of ‘S’ competition to showcase the writing talents of young Singaporeans.
Broad involvement with Young Enterprise includes mentoring programmes to support and inspire school-age children. In Northern Ireland, our Coding for Kids scheme developed by a female graduate helps raise awareness and build technology skills in schools.
Our support for Action for Children and Whitelion focus on helping at-risk young people. Several managers have been involved on the Action for Children ‘Byte Night’s regional boards, which has seen more than £50k raised through our people sleeping outside.
Considering the environment
Civica’s Environmental Management team comprises passionate and knowledgeable employees leading the implementation of our ISO 14001-compliant environmental policy. The team focuses on continuous improvement, ensuring we work with customers, suppliers and partners to recognise and reduce our impact upon the environment.
New initiatives include partnering with charity WRAP for the UK’s first national Food Waste Action Week in 2021 to tackle household waste. Besides ongoing improvement within our facilities, such as providing refillable soaps and expanding recycling provision to include difficult to recycle items, we aim to increase lighting and heating efficiency. We also aim to reduce indirect environmental impacts, such as through the materials and equipment we procure, for example, adding HP laptops using parts made from recovered ocean plastics to our standard issue.
We also work with customers to improve the delivery of services using efficient technology, such as digital platforms and innovative apps, which remove the paper and support more flexible and agile working.

Each year, members of the Civica team and their families boycott their beds to spend a night under the stars to raise money for partner charity Action for Children. You can help make a difference by donating here.
